The Toyota RAV4 has been completely redesigned for 2026. This sixth generation maintains the versatility that made the RAV4 so successful while introducing important changes to its powertrains, technology and safety features.
The most significant change is simple: there is no longer a gasoline-only RAV4 in the Canadian lineup. Every 2026 model is now either a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. To help you understand this expanded lineup, Toyota Île-Perrot answers the most common questions about the new RAV4.
Yes. The 2026 RAV4 introduces a new generation with a redesigned body, a more rigid structure, new suspension components and a modernized interior.
Toyota offers three distinct exterior personalities:
The 60/40-split rear seatbacks fold flat, while the cargo opening and interior storage areas have been redesigned to make it easier to carry luggage, sports equipment or larger purchases.
The lineup includes two choices.
The RAV4 Hybrid combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system. Total output increases to 236 hp, compared with 219 hp in the previous model.
This system does not need to be plugged in. The battery charges automatically while driving, including through energy recovered during deceleration and braking.
The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid also combines a 2.5-litre engine with two electric motors, but it receives a larger battery. The system generates 324 hp, an increase of 22 hp over the previous generation.
When the available electric charge is depleted, the gasoline engine takes over automatically. Drivers are therefore not required to stop and recharge before continuing their journey.
The RAV4 LE AWD has an estimated combined fuel consumption rating of just 5.5 L/100 km. Depending on the model and its equipment, the estimate increases to 6.2 L/100 km for the Woodland with all-terrain tires.
| Hybrid Model | Estimated Combined Fuel Consumption |
|---|---|
| LE AWD | 5.5 L/100 km |
| XLE AWD | 5.7 L/100 km |
| Limited AWD | 5.8 L/100 km |
| XSE AWD | 5.8 L/100 km |
| Woodland AWD | 6.2 L/100 km |
Differences between versions can be explained partly by wheel dimensions, tire selection and model-specific equipment.
The 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid can travel up to an estimated 80 kilometres using electric power. That represents an improvement of approximately 20% compared with the previous generation.
For someone who can charge at home and has a relatively short daily commute, a significant portion of everyday driving could therefore be completed without using gasoline. Actual electric range will vary according to the temperature, cabin heating, driving speed and driving habits.
SE and XSE versions include a dual-voltage charging cable and can be charged using a Level 1 or Level 2 power source. The XSE Technology Package adds a more powerful 11-kW onboard charger and DC fast-charging capability. Toyota estimates that a Level 3 charging station can bring the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.
Yes. Every 2026 RAV4 sold in Canada has all-wheel drive. Buyers therefore do not need to select a more expensive version to obtain this useful feature for winter driving.
The hybrid system automatically manages power distribution to improve traction when road conditions become more challenging.
The Woodland is intended for drivers who want a more rugged-looking and adventure-ready RAV4. Its equipment includes:
This model retains the 236-hp hybrid powertrain, although its estimated combined fuel consumption of 6.2 L/100 km is slightly higher because of its tires and specialized configuration.
Yes, but it is offered exclusively with the plug-in hybrid powertrain. The first RAV4 GR SPORT was developed in collaboration with Toyota GAZOO Racing.
It receives a sport-tuned suspension, performance dampers, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, exclusive 20-inch wheels, red brake calipers and a unique interior treatment. It produces the same combined 324 hp as the other plug-in hybrid versions.
The RAV4 LE already includes a 10.5-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital display in front of the driver. Higher trims can receive a larger 12.9-inch multimedia touchscreen.
The latest Toyota Multimedia system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, personalized user profiles, configurable widgets and Toyota’s voice assistant. Integrated 5G connectivity is also included, subject to network availability and applicable subscriptions.
The RAV4 also introduces an integrated Drive Recorder. When activated, this feature can use the vehicle’s exterior cameras to record certain events.
Every model is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. This new generation improves the detection capabilities of technologies such as the Pre-Collision System and Lane Tracing Assist.
Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are also standard. Depending on the selected version, drivers can add features such as a Panoramic View Monitor, Advanced Park, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist and a head-up display.
The hybrid lineup includes seven models: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Woodland, Limited, XSE and XSE Technology Package. Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices start at $37,500 for the LE AWD and reach $52,450 for the XSE Technology Package AWD.
The plug-in hybrid lineup includes four models: SE, XSE, XSE Technology Package and GR SPORT. Suggested retail prices range from $48,750 to $59,350.
Every 2026 RAV4 Hybrid sold in Canada is assembled at Toyota’s Canadian manufacturing facilities.
