Have your grains of salt ready – one Toyota exec says we can expect three pedals and 400 horsepower
The fifth-generation Toyota Supra has been in gestation for over four years now and in that time, we’ve heard a barrage of rumours about what the car will and won’t be.
Well, here’s a new one – according to a Toyota 4×4 forum, a Toyota representative said that enthusiasts can “expect a manual transmission option” in the new Supra and quashed rumours of a BMW-sourced inline-six, saying the future Supra would break tradition and be powered by a turbocharged 3.5L V6. It’s hardly the sexiest engine configuration out there, but it makes sense for ruthlessly practical Toyota.
This mystery man also said that output could be north of 400 horsepower and we darn well hope so – 400 horsepower is not just common among sports cars today, but also sedans and SUVs. Really, we think the new Supra should pack at least 500, but time will tell.
