The 2023 Highlander: Versatile and Sophisticated

Toyota presents us an improved and sophisticated version of its midsize SUV; the 2023 Highlander! This seven-to-eight-passenger vehicle offers a choice of gas or hybrid powertrains and features a new turbo engine for the gas version. Several updates to the Toyota multimedia system and other equipment are in order for the 2023 model year. Note that five distinct models are available for the gasoline-powered Highlander and five others are available for the Hybrid version.

Cyril Dimitris, Vice President of Toyota Canada Inc. said, “The Toyota Highlander series is a beautiful blend of design, performance, and technology. It’s the premium SUV that helps Canadians enjoy the rewards of a life well lived. For 2023, we’ve fitted a new engine to gas models that makes Highlander even more fun to drive, and upgraded all models with our powerful yet intuitive Toyota Multimedia system. Then we’ve rounded out the improvements with new amenities on every trim level – making the Highlander series the perfect partners for shaping and celebrating all the best moments in our lives. »

More performance under the hood

In fact, gasoline-powered 2023 Highlander models will benefit from a new turbo engine that will deliver higher torque while reducing emissions. This 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder will develop 265 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque, which is 17% more compared to the engine that preceded it.
As for the hybrid models, they are entitled to a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, two electric motor-generators and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. This alloy will develop a power of 243 horsepower and a fuel efficiency of 6.7 L/100 km (city/highway combined).
Highlander LE and XLE models will come with a Dynamic Torque Control all-wheel drive system, while Highlander XSE, Limited and Platinum models will get a more capable Dynamic Torque Modulating All-Wheel Drive with Selector drive mode switch and disconnectable rear driveshaft. Hybrid models will get AWD-I technology which uses a separate rear electric motor that powers the rear axle when needed.

A high-end cabin

Eight-passenger models have a second row of 60/40 split-folding seats that can accommodate three people. For added comfort, seven-seat models are equipped with two captain's chairs. All models feature a 60/40 split fold-flat third-row bench seat. When all the second and third row seats are folded, the rear cargo volume is up to 2,387 litres.

Technological innovations

An all-new Technology option package that includes the Toyota multimedia system is integrated into all Highlander models, both gasoline and hybrid. In addition, the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ system, which helps increase driver alertness and facilitate decision-making behind the wheel, will be included with all versions. Toyota Star security system, rear view camera, 8 airbags, as well as a tire pressure monitoring system are added to make your driving safer.
